What? A timely update?

amorous giraffe {loveyoo}
It would appear I have beaten the distraction goblins this week and am coming through with a more or less timely SCP update! Cookies all round!

This Friday is going to be an exciting one. In the afternoon, I'll be braving the hordes of be-costumed anime zealots at the Hawaii Convention Center to appear at the Kawaii-Kon, an annual anime convention, to promote my cartoon. I've been told that the way to get people to pay attention is to dress like Xena, Warrior Princess, but since I couldn't find a leather thong in time, they said something low cut would work just fine on the nerdy masses. I am not above exploiting myself for my cartoons. However, this is bound to be a scary experience. I'm putting new batteries in my camera.

On Friday evening, I'm going to an event held in honor of the 808 Scene Zine, a local publication which runs my comic. Since I'm a (very small) part of the zine, I'm sort of expected to go, an idea the editor reinforced by dropping off six free tickets for me at work, which some of my coworkers promptly lifted. I might have ducked out, except that the shindig is a 1920s and '30s theme, which I am all about in six different ways. I may also be promoting the toon here. But most importantly, in a polka dot rockabilly halter dress and cherry red lipstick. Za za za.

For all my favorite people, this week's cartoon. The website is still being built, so my main updates are still here until it's finished. Enjoy!

I squeaked when I laughed reading this. I love Finn and the Flying Pig snickering, too. And the digging in the pocket. And the cookies. Overall, fantastic. And I'm going to go buy a cookie now.

Friday was a great day, actually. I skipped the con, but I went to the party, all 1930s dressed. I have to say, I looked pretty all right. ;)

Glad you liked the toon!

For a 20's and 30's theme, Kitter, you gone need a flapper getup. Rockabilly wasn't on the charts for another, what? Fifteen, twenty years. But you at least have a flapper hat already! We can SO easily put together a good flapper outfit. Look to Lackadaisy for inspiration.

It's called a rockabilly dress, but technically it looks more '40s. Still a little later in the game, but what the hell, there were people wearing anime t-shirts. I think I did okay. ;)

I would have liked to go as a guy, shoeshine-newsie-cap style. Get some slacks and suspenders, my cap...

Totally awesome. The cookies, the giggling Finn and Pig, and the pissed off Warburton! This cracked me up.

You totally have to post pictures of the comic con and your costume for the Scene Zine! :)

Glad you dig it! I had a lot of fun with the afro.

I didn't wind up going to the con, but I may be able to find a picture of me from the zine party. Andrew took a couple. I have to say, not to brag, I looked pretty all right.

I was tempted to give Warburton a fro forever.

Friday was fun! I would still have loved to see you in a flapper costume, though. ;)

Not above exploiting yourself amidst the unwashed masses for your cartoon, eh?

Oh, wait. It's your characters whom you won't exploit!

I suppose, since it looks like I won't be able to make San Diego Comic-Con this year, I could try to drive all the way into town for Kawaii-Con. But I'm guessin' that procrastination and lethargy will subvert any such intentions, so I'm likely to miss out on your self-ploitation.

I suspect your post-con report will be more entertaining than the event itself, anyway.

Have fun!

Have you based your Enforcer on the depiction of God in bro'Town?

I've never actually seen bro-Town, since I don't have a TV and it didn't make it to Hawaii, but the character looks sweet. Warburton the Enforcer is actually based on a character that I used to draw, a cuter version of an uruk-hai.

A Lesson in Exaggeration
There was a story of a lonely english lad, who liked nothing more than to read his favorite comic each and every wednesday. It was one of the few comfortingly stable things in his life, and every day, he checked his mailbox to see if his package would be there. But each day, the disappointment of bills and junk mail ruined his demeanor. His hopes of a carefully wrapped book of comics with the grit of pacific sand in its pages kept him going each long, and boring east coast day. Until one day, he killed himself, becuase it just too long to arrive. With his last, dire, and wispy breath he whispered one simple word... 'pop'

but really... no pressure!! Send it when you can!!

Re: A Lesson in Exaggeration
Oh, my dear John! I'm so sorry. I am usually late in everything I do. I've been thinking of mailing you your book for weeks, but I haven't been able to yet. I apologize, and hope very much that my apologies reach you before the end comes.

I'm saving the last one for you, no worries. People keep requesting them, which is shocking, but I always have one for you. I'll make it to the post office as soon as I can. Thanks for not killing me!
