Ahhh. Today has been a heckuvalot better than yesterday. I just got back from a nice swim with mum, I got a lot of important stuff taken care of, and a lot of fun stuff done. What's more, I made up a brand new batch of Claymates to put on Domestic Voodoo and since they are just so cute (though I say it myself) I figured I'd give my favorite people the first look at them. Don't worry if any of these get sold -- I can easily make more, and shall.

Obviously, this one is named David.
( Claymates and one Skelebuddy.. )
Also, now that I'm at #150 for Snap Crackle Pop, I'm thinking of taking a short break so I can get caught up on all my projects. I have commissions for paintings as well as toys, and I'll need the extra time to get the SCP book att finished and ready to print. So, a small survey: would you guys be totally betrayed if I went on hiatus for a month or two? Would you lose interest in the comic? Would you riot? Be honest. I'd actually be flattered if a few of you got pissed. Don't hold back. Really.
Love you all (especially you. Yes, you) and I hope your day is going great!

It's a mixed bag this week, 'roos. On the downside, I'm being completely ignored by my coworkers, I'm swamped with projects I can't walk away from, I can't manage to cook anything new and interesting, and I think my last surviving puffer might soon buy the farm. The other two disappeared and Aramis, the last one, started swimming erratically and floating. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
On the upside, my etsy shop is doing so well in its first week that I already made seventy bucks! I can't help but be excited about that. Plus, my boyfriend is great, my family is great, and I am great.
So, a little bit of a lot of things. Let's have a comic, eh?
I'm fully convinced this happens almost nightly. Yes, the comic is dark, but that's just because it's night. See, I'm all artsy like that. :p Enjoy, all!

Hey all! Finally got up my etsy shop!

For these items and a ton more, go check out my brand spankin' new shop, Domestic Voodoo!
And if voodoo supplies aren't your thing, don't worry. I'll be listing a lot of different items that I've made, including some geisha nesting dolls. I'm also hoping that this shop will include my awesome sister and her crafts, so keep your eyeballs peeled for all that goodness.
Please enjoy!
Home sick from work today. Once I start feeling less oogy I'll get up and clean the house, but until then, I'm working on cartoons and crafts. Hope you're all well.

Oh man. Today was lousy. At least, work was. My first art class was really good, but the second went to pieces and it had to be the day that my boss was observing my classes for a review. I left feeling like I wanted to start drinking beer in mass quantities.
On the upside, there's no feeling so good as being on my own with my group of three-to-five year olds for a drop-off art class, confessing that I'm having a bad day and having them gather around me like my best friends and say, "It's okay, Miss Kit, it's only one bad day," and "You're a good teacher anyway." Daniel, the freckle-faced goofball made me giggle by saying, "Just make sure a bad day doesn't turn into a bad hair day!" Kids are so effin' great.
Of course nothing really chases the bad day blues away like a good long hug from The Boyfriend, followed by him making goofy faces at me.
Your comic today is based on a conversation The Boyfriend and I had about women in popular comics, and how there is rarely a role for them beyond sexy uniforms and sassy comebacks. The good lines and good personality traits are reserved for the male characters, and the women are there to look hot and be a part of a traditional fantasy. This is not true of all comics by a longshot, but the majority seems to hold it as law. Anyway, this sprang from it.
It is also shaded in the brand spankin' new, delicious and wonderful Prisma greyscale markers I just got from my friend Kristin! I'll reserve telling her she shouldn't have because I'm just pleased as punch that she did, and so if today's comic looks good at all, it's all to her credit. ;)
Please enjoy!

Also, I got an unfinished small wooden puzzle and decided to paint a little something on it. I may try to sell it later, who knows. Of course, it just had to have a blowfish in it. ;)

I know I'm late, but yesterday was crazy. From a panicked art class in the morning to my sister's appendix scare in the afternoon (she's okay, folks), to a bull-moose migraine in the evening, I had a rough time scanning and finishing the cartoon. I've also been swimming with sharks, and pictures are soon to come. Hopefully no one minds my lateness -- but if you do, suck it! Y'all bitchzz ain't payin' me anyway.
Here is your shameless toon for the week.

Also, I wanted to share a wee project with you that I've been having a lot of fun with. Sue and I are thinking of starting up an online shop of voodoo and plush donuts, with Sue handling the sewing and I handling the voodoo. The first creations for this shop are below: two and a half inch wooden figures painted, by me, with Dia De Los Muertos designs. They will either be called Voodoo Pals or Skelebuddies, depending. I hope to sell them individually on etsy.
Have a look!

Another rollercoaster week deposits us here, at our faithful, steadfast early Wednesday. I feel good about it, frankly, though that may change tomorrow. I'm excited about my dad coming to visit. Half way joking, I suggested we do this shark cage tour I'd found out about (maybe only 30% joking because I really wanted to but I never thought anyone else would go with me) and my dad told me to go ahead and book it. With luck, in a few weeks, my dad and myself will be in a cage in the middle of the ocean surrounded by wild sharks in very close proximity. This alone makes me able to cope with anything else. ;)
Here's your comic, my dears, please enjoy! I forgot to mention earlier that this story line does actually come from life, as Bugsy is intent on attacking and chewing on poor Randall, but in this case Bugsy isn't the victim, he's the jerk. However, Mordak is the Lord of Fury.

Also, I just finished a new painting! I'm happy with this one, it was fun. Check it out...

Hey y'all, happy Saturday! With an iced coffee at my side and a warm fresh-washed kitten asleep on my feet, I thought now would be a good time to upload my next photopost, a rather quirky combination of animal photos, and documentation of various art projects. This will probably give you an accurate idea of what my days are filled with.
That is, aside from when I am working, singing songs about parachutes and making announcements about please not ignoring it when your child pukes on my classroom floor and then not telling anyone that they did it and not cleaning it up.
Anyway, onward! I hope you enjoy. As far as good photography goes, I can claim no artistic merit in these pictures: they're simply there to tell the story, not to look brilliant.

Happy Wednesday, critters! How did December get here so quickly? I usually try to have my Christmakwaanzukkah stuff well in hand by this time, but at the moment I am so broke, it's scary. I am, to my relief, swimming in painting commissions that are helping to pay the bills -- we'll see how that goes.
Just to continue pimping: prints, cards, shirts, bags and a bitchin' 2009 calendar can all be found up at my shop, thus. Prices are fair, and it'll help me get through Christmas unscathed.
Here's your comic for today! It's more a celebration of fine tropical weather than how I really feel -- in Wahiawa, it's very cold and rainy, and I find myself longing for a good soft snow.
This strip does mark the emergence of a new old character, a favorite from my old comic strip, What Happened To Leonard, just remixed in a different form. Enjoy!

Also, I recently finished a painting commission for the lovely Jules and her son Cody, shown below le cut...

Finished another painting, which I'm kinda happy with. It goes a little something like this...

I just wanted to put certain colors together, and certain images together, and not really bother trying to have it make sense. The Buddha's hand positions symbolize love of the earth and compassion for mankind. Just a little something I had fun doing.
Prints and such are available in my online shop, which I pimp not just for myself, but because the holidays are coming up. By the way, I'm also working on a calendar, which will be ready before Christmakwaanzukkah.
Love you guys!

Here's my latest! It's called "Though She Wanted To Keep Him, He Had To Go Back".

This wound up looking a lot the way I'd imagined it, which makes me happy. Someone pointed out that his anatomy looks awkward, but that is because he's floating and also being tugged by the leg. I was listening to seafarin' songs all through painting this, most particularly Alison Krauss: "You Will Be My Ain True Love".
Prints are up in the print shop! Hope y'all like it.
I have a few commissions lined up, some of which I can't tackle until I can afford new canvas.

Under a cut for your comfort...

I'm getting frustrated with the job hunt. Today I called the director of the center where I interviewed last week -- a place I loved, and I loved the director even more -- and she told me she was still interviewing a lot of people for the job, and hadn't come to a decision yet. That doesn't sound too promising. She's more likely to go with someone who has some college experience than a no-account bum like myself with only basic training and an expired CPR certification. She seemed to like me, but I dunno. If she's interviewing a lot of people, I don't feel too hopeful.
I feel so helpless and ineffectual without a job. At home I paint and clean and cook and fold laundry (badly), and I'm basically a housewife. That's not for me. I feel like I want to just flop over and give up and say, "Oh, forget it! Fuck having a job." But of course, that ain't an option.
Cross your fingers for me, kids.
In the meantime, I will make lime cookies, start a new painting, fold laundry (badly), and love you all immensely!

The Boyfriend and myself were sitting at the table over my mom's German meatloaf, discussing the difference between German and American meatloaf and the crazy ways some people prepare it. Our conversation went as follows.
Him: I think I'll write a book called "Meatloafs I Have Known".
Me: The Meatloaf Who Loved Me.
Him: One Thousand and One Meatloafs.
Me: To Have And Have Meatloaf.
Him: Monty Python and the Holy Meatloaf.
Me: Snow White and the Seven Meatloafs.
Him: Escape From Meatloaf Mountain.
Me: Thiry-Six Meatloafs of the Shaolin!
Him: Saving Private Meatloaf.
Me: Big Trouble in Little Meatloaf. Or Big Meatloaf in Little China, whichever...
Him: Lord of the Meatlof.
Me: Meatloaf Wars: The Meatloaf Strikes Back!
There were so many more and I can't remember them. Dernit. Still... I'd say we're ready for greatness.
Another tiki-centric painting! I'm pretty happy with this one. It's called "Sasquatch Makes His First Visit To Hawaii".

Hawaii is the only state in the whole US that hasn't reported a Bigfoot sighting, so I figured he may as well pay us a visit. ;)
Additionally, one of The Boyfriend's coworkers liked this painting, which he has up in his cubicle, and commissioned me to paint her a larger copy. The Boyf negotiated on my behalf and she wants to buy it for a hundred dollars! You believe that shit? A hunnert coconuts! If it were up to me I'd have been embarrassed to ask for, like, thirty.
At least I'm getting some work, eh?

Since the Boyfriend and I agreed that we wanted a tiki theme for our future apartment (with which there is some doubt, debate, trouble and tribulation, all of which I must cowboy up and overcome), I've begun painting things to hang once we have walls of our very own. I really love painting. It's relaxing just as a process, mixing colors, applying it to the canvas, and it also gives me a whole new freedom with color and experimentation.
Under the cut are the two paintings I've done so far. If you enjoy them enough, I can set up prints on my online shop. Hope you dig!

I've been drawing feverishly lately, trying to get people interested in a website that isn't quite done yet, and even though that part is a little embarrassing, it seems like people are reacting well to the idea of a free cartoon designed for their laughing pleasure. I can't think of too many people who would find that offensive, but it does happen.
I drew a piece for a flyer I'd intended to pass out at a local comics convention, but I chickened out at the thought of hordes of anime-drunk supernerds (speaking as a supernerd myself, mind you) and am instead passing out mini prints of it at work and whatnot.
I'm really happy with this one. I've gotten more compliments on it than any other piece I've done yet, and it seems my coloring skills are not as poor as I'd given myself credit for.

Also, I did a small, random piece that turned out not to go to anything.

Some way cool news is that I finally added some new products to my Snap Crackle Pop Store!
There have been a lot of requests for black t-shirts, which I have provided with this new design, as well as some other fun stuff. The downside is that, with CafePress's base prices being so high as it is, I'm stiffing myself on money to have low prices in my shop and yet the prices are still higher than I'd like. Sorry kids, but I'm making it as low as I can. Even so, I love and appreciate the support.
There's a lot more to come once I figure out how to properly color in this computer program, or else I'll just do it all by hand. Let me know if you have any other ideas for me!

Usually, I want kids right away. I want about six or eight of them, right now, totally ready, no problem, pile 'em on, send me the crib lizards, it's time. I love kids, I love hanging with them, chatting with them, telling them stories. Kids are grand, and I'm well trained in looking after them.
However, a while ago, I experienced a day, maybe a few days, where I just wasn't feeling it. I'm not ready to give up being the center of attention. I'm not done being taken care of by others. I'm still a kid.
I drew this.

I'll do a short one:
* watching dogs chew
* soft cotton dresses that make me look skinnier
* ketchup
* sand in my hair
* mild sunburn
* the way The Boyfriend gets so excited over making me a mixed CD that he re-does the song order and the cover art, like, six times
* Dan Akroyd's unlikely but potent hotness
* experiments with lime chicken and pineapple
* tiny fat birds that hop
* Dad's pictures of the Ohio blizzard
* bagpipes and kilts
* phone calls from himself
* the "Art of Bone" book my dad just sent me secretly, which is far too awesome for me to explain to you (thanks, Pop!)
* Suki high on catnip
* selling EVERY SINGLE ONE of the Snap Crackle Pop booklets at Jelly's
* the dirty guilty satisfying rock of AC/DC
* driving and shopping with Lily before work
* my mom's banana bread. Holy macaroni.
* my new DVD from Amazon, the amazing and barely-in-print Dr. Suess double feature, the Lorax and the little known but still awesome Pontoffel Pock and his magic piano! Y'all gotta see this shit.
* Whitney, Sara, Liz, Jen, Ashley, Mo, Juliet, Becca Lee... to name a few. And Lily of course.
Love you all!
